Happy New Year!

Wow, already January 7th?!?! Can't believe the new year is off to such a running start!

This past week I renewed my drive to find a new job--I applied to 22 new firms I had not previously applied to. This week will be the massive juggling of follow up calls and interview settings. A coworker also had a contact with one of the larger design + architecture firms in the area (they are international) and as a result of insider-reference, I was *granted* a phone interview. That was this morning! I didn't have very high expectations--the phone is awkward and uncomfortable, but, i think it went alright. If nothing else, all my stuff is getting passed on to someone who will either tell me in a week that there is no way they have space for me, or who will call me to set up an interview and office tour (which I take as a very good sign). One thing is certain--I would not have gotten the phone interview without a little inside recommendation :)

One thing I am realizing is that it is uncommon for people to have a job they aren't entirely pleased with, but to still try to excel at it. My boss is very impressed with me and, rumor from the grapevine, wants to eventually promote me to office manager. Crazy. Apparently he respects my opinions (even though I am 23 and have no experience with Geotech or environmental consulting). I think I trick him with my smiles and positive attitude.

Other than that--its mostly been business as usual: finding it hard to fit in at church here, playing on rocks with Chris, Chris and Meredith, and reading books :) life is good.
